ETC Magazine - Personal Shopper Igor and the latest A/W trends from New York Fashion Week

It’s that time of the year when we need to think about warmer cloths and lots of layers. Autumn is on our doorstep and we should get ready for the new looks, checking our wardrobes for what will still work this winter.

Having attended the 2009 A/W New York Fashion week,I aim to bring the inspiration and ideas from the catwalk to my clients ,etc readers and my audience at Juice 107.2.

I will be talking about the highlights of Fall 09 New York Fashion Week in this issue, featuring the hottest designers and their fabulous collections for the winter. In NYC,I attended around 30 shows-but only handful of designers made an impact on me.

Let’s start with the guys, and my top tp for the menswear this winter.

Duckie Brown proposes fresh new ways to wrap up worm, experimenting with more modern textures and tweeds.

Talking with Duckie Brown designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver backstage, they said they wanted to create a beautifully tailored Fashion collection for the New York but their general inspiration was snowboarding and mountaineering(moving from the bike messenger look of Spring 09).

The coats are more sculptured, stiffer, with loud fun accessories, like their show-stopping pom pom bobble-hats. It was a tight collection ,featuring extra-long padded gloves, blanket scarves and knitted hats.

And now something for the ladies…

George Chakra’s  Ready to Wear Collection was exciting and unique, all about a chic sleek,space-age look; with short, black, big pleat,A-line or slinky burgundy pencil dresses and trousers, all high-gloss and combined with a sequin corsets. Jenifer Love Hewitt told me she’s big fan of Georges work, and after viewing the collection I can see why.

When I talked to George about his outfits,he said that he had always wanted to use rough materials.

He loves sculptured and materials and used satin and metallic, which is surprisingly easy to manipulate and a very hot material this season.

When I interviewed Charlotte Ronson backstage, she said she liked her sweaters with shoulder cut-outs and lots of layering. Her inspiration was her sister and was very proud to exhibit her collection in front of her brother Mark, who was sitting in the first row, next to Lindsay Lohan.

The collection, which was all about feminine, flirty and effortless clothes, was shown to soundtrack of 40s swing music.

The fashion of 1940s is big influence this season: Fabulous moss green skirt-suits in at the waist, collared jackets and pencil skirts; giant dogtooth designs;;and tweeds,narrow-belted skirts and oversize coats.

And red is red-hot this winter, like red twilight silk evening dresses with statement accessories. And in 2009,grey is a soft alternative to black and a staple on the catwalks.

The designer’s choice of fabrics are punchy prints, bold checks, sleek gloss and revitalized tweed. Mix winter florals and stripes for an electric up to-date look. Accessories follow the “high shine” look-smart crocodile print leather bags, and oversized bags are must for the weekend. Meanwhile hats are hot,in structured felt or tweed-stylish alternative to the bubble hat.

Want to know what will be in style for next spring? I am of to the New York and London Fashion week, which will be showing the collections that will hit the street early in 2010.

I will be back soon to talk you through the highlights of those catwalks, and to give you tips on how to stay in style.
