Our Fashion and Beauty Editor Igor Srzic Cartledge had a chance to talk to Kelly Osbourne at New York Fashion Week.

I have met Kelly a few times before; at Sex in the City designer Patricia Fields’ Fashion Party in NY ,so I know she is very chatty and
loves to talk about the Fashion. We met again at back stage at Charlotte Ronson show (Mark Ronson’s sister) and had a little chat about her and fashion week. Kelly missed the first day of the Fashion week having flown in from doing a show in Chicago , so she made the decision to see a only one show a day, because it can be quite exhausting to fit in more.

I asked her what she thought about Charlotte Ronsons show…
KO: She does simplicity really really well and it is hard to do that and not to be boring and stay a head of trends. I do have quite a lot of her stuff in my closet apart from Channel of course.

How would you describe your style today? And what are you wearing?
KO: What I am wearing today it is very me, a bit girly I think??

When you get out of the house do you look in you wardrobe and say ”I feel like wearing this today or..”?
KO: Getting dressed in the morning it is my favourite thing. If I am in a good mood I might wear flowery dress today or if I am in the really bad mood sweat pants and a hoodie.

Can you tell me what is you personal style?
KO: I am the girliest tomboy that you will ever meet.

What is the item you can’t leave your house without?
KO: That must be my Leather Jacket, for sure. I do love my LJ a lot.

What is the most expensive thing that you have in your wardrobe?
K0: Oh my god, that is so hard to answer. I really don’t know. I do have a vintage 1960 Yves Saint Laurent dress, that I found in the vintage shop. I got it for 350 dollars .And when I wanted to get insured I found that it was priceless.

Any new projects coming up in the near future?
KO: Working on the Fashion Police force and Material girl Madonna’s clothing line.. I am doing two movies and they are coming out in next year. And I’m in the process of starting my own thing…But I can’t tell you anything about that this time.

What is your favourite designer and why?
KO: It is Miu Miu girl. Because it is really girly and also very comfortable too. And whenever I wear it, I feel very special.

I had fun talking to her . She looked great and very happy with herself.

Our Fashion & Beauty Editor Igor Srzic- Cartledge had a chance to meet and have a chat with Jeninfer Love Hewitt at New York Fashion week only for What MagazineMagazine.

Travelling around the globe and seeing so many different Fashion shows I have had the opportunity to meet so many celebrities and have had a chance to talk to them about fashion and their support for the different designers. It might surprise you to learn that some celebrities even charge designers sums of £50,000 to sit in the first row and be seen to support the show.

At New York Fashion week I had the chance to catch up with Jennifer Love Hewitt – star of the Ghost Whisperer – while we were at Lebanese designer George Chakra’s show, where we were seated together. At first when the girl at the entrance said I was next to Jennifer Love Hewitt, I laughed and thought that she was joking!
Jennifer said that it was her first time at event like this and she was very pleased and exited to be there. She was a new fan of Chakra’s collection, and didn’t really know about him at all before receiving his collection book which really impressed her. She loved some of his designs and flew all the way from LA to see his collection.

Jennifer was wearing a sleeveless figure hugging dress from Dolce & Gabbana and she look great in it. She told me she was working on a series of Ghost Whisper and working on a new movie.
For Jennifer, New York Fashion Week represents freedom and the chance to be who ever you like to be.
It is very exiting to be here and very glamorous at the same time.
She really made me laugh when she said that there was more glamour then she is used to.
I met up with Jennifer a few times during the Fashion week and her fondness of George Chakra’s work was evident as she was wearing onee of his strapless dresses in a swirling blue/ grey print all over, together with a Louis Vuitton brown bag ( though I must say I wasn’t sure they really went together).

I loved how easy to talk to and down to earth Jennifer was. There was not much Diva going on and you could see that she could be a girl next door.

It was Feb 14 when we met and we had a little joke that was St Valentine’s day and we are alone and maybe we should go to dinner together. Personally I do like her as a actress and think that Jennifer is fast becoming one of the darlings in the Fashion world.

Kennedy/Onnasis snuggling into a cozy fireside scene, and you’ve got the gist of the 50s -inspired retro look that is the theme of this year’s autumn and winter collections. It’s a great opportunity to grab a bargain from those vintage second hand stores, and believe it or not, your old grannies handbags – you know, those boxy ones that look like miniature medical bags, or even those bags she has that look like leather envelopes – are hot hot hot. So its time to rifle through the drawers of your older relatives and see what you can pilfer.

The vintage influence extends to patterns and fabrics, with a tendency towards those big florals and classic checks, but beware of anything that looks a bit too curtainy. This seasons favoured colours Imagine you are Audrey Hepburn sipping an après ski cocktail, or Jackie again evoke a bygone age of elegance, with camel, holly-berry red, icey blue and olive shades all being popular. Fashion’s obsession with purple is not yet over, but for the colder months, you need to go for richer darker tones, deep plum and aubergine rather than brighter violets. And for those with a sense of adventure, burnished metalics are another colour trend this season, though tread carefully to avoid that looking brassy, or like Xena Warrior-princess.

Instead of coats, we are looking at chunky knits or gilets as alternatives, and another 50s favourite – the cape. Sheep-skin lined leather flying jackets are also in vogue.

This summer skirt lengths were dominated by the maxi, with that wafting, full length elegance all over the catwalk and now all over the beach, but for autumn/winter its mid-length you should be looking for, think of those 50s icons, and go for A line skirts, or full circle skirts, or even a wrap around.

Finally, your feet can also go 50s with kitten heeled pointy slingbacks making a welcome return, or if all this retro feel is a bit much, other styles to consider are the ever versatile ankle boot, or long high heeled boots with wrap around zippers (can’t remember Audrey wearing those!).

The fifties look is more structured, more tailored, less free-flowing and less casual, and it oozes glamour and sophistication. But its not going to suit everyone. So if you aren’t sure if you are looking like Marilyn Monroe or your auntie Marjorie, contact me ( at personalstyle.co.uk) for some one to one advice to steer you to the right combination for your figure, colouring & personality .

February’s New York Fashion Week was a roller coaster of emotion with the usual highs of the amazing collections offset by the heavy presence of tragedy. Despite earthquakes and designer suicides the shows must go on, but the aftermath of these events echoed through the week.

Haut couture’s response to the earthquake disaster was “Fashion for Relief Haiti”-organised by Naomi Campbell. The catwalk models were celebrities ,like Kelly Osborne, designers, including Donna Karan, and even royalty – in the form of the Duchess of York. Their dresses (donated by D&G, Dior and Ralph Lauren, among others) will be auctioned to add to proceeds from ticket sales going to support Haiti’s health care system. Naomi, who is making a name for herself as a fashion fundraiser, went on to run a similar show at London Fashion week for the same cause.

Agyness Deyn joined the celebrities on the runway, but had to leave it barefoot after a couple of slip ups in her oh-so-high heels but all this was eclipsed by the finale of McQueen classics, as a poignant tribute.

Alexander’s suicide coloured the mood for the week, and was a sensitive topic for Brooke Shields, when I met her at the Jimmy Shoo party. Most recently known for her role in “Lipstick Jungle”, Brooke was even more beautiful face to face, and seemed a genuine and charming person.

Later in the week, I bumped in to Kelly Osborne again, who is looking really trim, and was stunning in a leather figure hugging long-sleeved mini-dress. And Kelly wasn’t the only British music star I met. Back stage I chatted to Estelle, dressed head to toe in Maxazria ( who’s collection we had just seen). She let slip that her new single “ Freak” has a video that will shock us all, but wouldn’t be drawn when I asked her whether the men in her life were the inspiration for its title.

“So what about the collections?” I hear you cry! But you will just have to be patient, and all will be revealed – the spring summer collections next month, and the fall/winter in time for autumn.

It’s that time of the year when we need to think about warmer cloths and lots of layers. Autumn is on our doorstep and we should get ready for the new looks, checking our wardrobes for what will still work this winter.

Having attended the 2009 A/W New York Fashion week,I aim to bring the inspiration and ideas from the catwalk to my clients ,etc readers and my audience at Juice 107.2.

I will be talking about the highlights of Fall 09 New York Fashion Week in this issue, featuring the hottest designers and their fabulous collections for the winter. In NYC,I attended around 30 shows-but only handful of designers made an impact on me.

Let’s start with the guys, and my top tp for the menswear this winter.

Duckie Brown proposes fresh new ways to wrap up worm, experimenting with more modern textures and tweeds.

Talking with Duckie Brown designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver backstage, they said they wanted to create a beautifully tailored Fashion collection for the New York but their general inspiration was snowboarding and mountaineering(moving from the bike messenger look of Spring 09).

The coats are more sculptured, stiffer, with loud fun accessories, like their show-stopping pom pom bobble-hats. It was a tight collection ,featuring extra-long padded gloves, blanket scarves and knitted hats.

And now something for the ladies…

George Chakra’s Ready to Wear Collection was exciting and unique, all about a chic sleek,space-age look; with short, black, big pleat,A-line or slinky burgundy pencil dresses and trousers, all high-gloss and combined with a sequin corsets. Jenifer Love Hewitt told me she’s big fan of Georges work, and after viewing the collection I can see why.

When I talked to George about his outfits,he said that he had always wanted to use rough materials.

He loves sculptured and materials and used satin and metallic, which is surprisingly easy to manipulate and a very hot material this season.

When I interviewed Charlotte Ronson backstage, she said she liked her sweaters with shoulder cut-outs and lots of layering. Her inspiration was her sister and was very proud to exhibit her collection in front of her brother Mark, who was sitting in the first row, next to Lindsay Lohan.

The collection, which was all about feminine, flirty and effortless clothes, was shown to soundtrack of 40s swing music.

The fashion of 1940s is big influence this season: Fabulous moss green skirt-suits in at the waist, collared jackets and pencil skirts; giant dogtooth designs;;and tweeds,narrow-belted skirts and oversize coats.

And red is red-hot this winter, like red twilight silk evening dresses with statement accessories. And in 2009,grey is a soft alternative to black and a staple on the catwalks.

The designer’s choice of fabrics are punchy prints, bold checks, sleek gloss and revitalized tweed. Mix winter florals and stripes for an electric up to-date look. Accessories follow the “high shine” look-smart crocodile print leather bags, and oversized bags are must for the weekend. Meanwhile hats are hot,in structured felt or tweed-stylish alternative to the bubble hat.

Want to know what will be in style for next spring? I am of to the New York and London Fashion week, which will be showing the collections that will hit the street early in 2010.

I will be back soon to talk you through the highlights of those catwalks, and to give you tips on how to stay in style.
Igor Srzic Cartledge

Saturday 14th of February: Day Two of New York Fashion Week.

After a very busy and successful first day, I got getting ready for a second day of amazing shows and a few celebrities to talk to about Fashion Week.
I had seven shows on my list for the day, but only a few left me speechless.
George Chakra’s Ready-to-Wear Collection was one.
He showed short, glossy black dresses with butterflies, glossy burgundy trousers with sequin corset and a short green ombre taffeta dress under a coat.
His line was very different from all the other designers.
I had a quick chat with Jennifer Love Hewitt just before the show and she said that she had become a new fan of George’s collection.
She had not known about him before but got an invitation and was very happy to come and see it.
This happened to be her first fashion show ever! She was a fashion virgin and very excited.
Jennifer wore a fantastic Dolce & Gabbana dress.
When talking to George about his collection, back stage after the show, he said that he had always wanted to use rough materials.
He loved the sculptured dresses and materials. He used satin and metallic — which is very hot material and easy to manipulate.
George gave a little insight into his next collection and said that it will be totally different.
The next show I really enjoyed was the Barbie runway show.
Fifty American designer celebrated 50 years of global fashion icon “Barbie”!
Among the participating designers where: Alexander Wang — who admitted he owned a Barbie before G.I.Joe –Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenberg and many others.
Diane Von Furstenberg confided that “Barbie represents a confident and independent woman, with an amazing ability to have fun while still remaining glamorous.”
It was a great day spent with many different designers and people from all around the world.
To be continued
