Berlin Fashion week in Style with Personal Shopper Igor

This was my second visit to the Mercedes Berlin Fashion Week. It was just as exciting as the first, my invitation to attend came late but hey,it came! I was excited to be part of one of the most important fashion events in Europe – the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Berlin.
Because this was held from the 20th to 25th of Jan 2010 it was fairly cold with lots of snow. This was a real opportunity to check out one of Europe’s premier fashion shows – and to seek inspiration for my clients in Europe and USA.

Berlin is now becoming one of the “next big things” on the European fashion circuit promoting the work of creative, exciting, talented and innovative young designers who will continue to push the boundaries of creativity.

Once again it was held at Bebelplatz in the centre of Berlin and was the perfect historical backdrop for the designer collections.

And now back to the show…. What an inspiration, with compelling collections from designers from all over the world that nonetheless reflected that ‘newness’ and creativity as opposed to the (possibly?) faded glories of the traditional couture houses that seem somehow less in keeping with today’s ‘zeitgeist’. We had LENA HOSCHEK, NO IFS,PENKOV, ALLUDE, CUSTO from Barcelona, and many more. My personal favourite was Schumacher. Dorothee Schumacher presented her 2010 collection which was all about elegance – full of soft shades like caramel with a splash of colour. There were also lots of furs on collars and cuffs – all very easy to wear, but beautifully tailored, fabrics in jersey, silk and chiffon.

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out the latest additions to the up market boutiques of Friedrichstrasse. I also find the contrast between the energy of the former East Berlin and the more refined delights of districts like Charlottenberg in the West fascinating. Berlin is like that, full of struggling artists side by side with business and reconstruction.
